Knit 1, Chain 1

Date: 01/21 Saturday - 06/23 Saturday

Tues-Sat: 11am-4pm

Knit 1, Chain 1--an interesting exhibit showcasing the many variations of knit and crochet lace opens at The Lace Museum on January 21 through June 23. Both knitting and crocheting are easy to learn and have been practiced for many years around the globe and both can be used to create lace. This exhibit will showcase lace made using only knit and crochet techniques, many made with very fine threads, but others using everyday threads, but the way the hook or needle is used creates lovely or whimsical lace. The range is from silly to elegant!

Variations include Irish Crochet, Orenburg knitting, Hairpin Lace, Rick-Rack Lace, Filet Crochet, and more. Items on display include an Irish crochet gown from the Edwardian era, charming rick-rack lace wedding dress, an Orenburg shawl, knit lace doilies, knit doll clothes, a lace knit sampler, and pictorial filet crochet. An exquisite 3-dimensional Irish Crochet bedspread with botanically correct flowers and doves appliqued is a highlight. Many other treasures from the collection including reticules, household items, stockings, and accessories.

The museum gift shop also offers heirloom quality lace products and a full line of lacemaking items. The Lace Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm and is located at 552 South Murphy Avenue in Sunnyvale, CA 94086 with free parking. Admission is free with a charge for groups.
