Sunnyvale, California was inhabited by the Spanish during the 1770s. The Ohlone were its primary residents. Among the first owners of Sunnyvale were Estrada and Inez Castro, Lupe Ynigo and Martin Jr. and Mary Murphy.

 

During 1860, the railroad came to Sunnyvale, California. The 1870s marked a shift in Sunnyvale’s agricultural crops; wheat farming was replaced with fruit orchards. James and Eloise Dawson founded the first Sunnyvale cannery.

 

The Joshua Hendy Ironworks established its company in Sunnvale during 1906. That same year, Libby, McNeill & Libby opened their meat packing company in the area. The ironworks company supplied the marine steam engines, naval guns and rocket launchers for World War II.

 

Ames Laboratory permitted the National Advisory Committee for Aeronatuics to open its doors during 1939.

 

Lockheed aircraft manufacturer relocated its headquarters to Sunnvale, California some time in 1956. Yahoo!, Honeywell,Martin and TiVo all have their high-tech companies based here. Sunnvale, California also houses Onizuka Air Force Station.

 

Sunnvale was also home to Teri Hatcher, who is noted for her roles in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Spy Kids and The Love Boat.
